I spent the early part of my career combining a career in BBC and commercial radio with a number of in-house press and publicity posts, including the New Theatre in Hull and London Festival Ballet.
Following a period working for radio in the USA, I returned to Scotland in 1990 and went on to hold account manager and account director positions with several leading Scottish PR consultancies. Latterly, I was Account Director Scotland for McCann Erickson Public Relations in Edinburgh.
I established Masterson Media in 1999, specialising in public relations. Since then, other marketing services and copywriting have become an increasingly significant part of my portfolio.
I prefer to work independently, sub-contracting other communications professionals when required, as opposed to employing them on a full-time basis. This enables me to be flexible in sourcing the right team of people for any particular assignment.
Over the years I have managed PR assignments in diverse industry sectors from NHS Health Scotland to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
I was also editor of Well?, the Scottish Government’s magazine for Mental Health and Well-being for six years, and have managed writing assignments for the Registers of Scotland, the Scottish Court Service and VisitScotland.
I am based in East Lothian, 12 miles from Edinburgh’s City Centre.
